 1) What is independent cinema and how is it different to Hollywood blockbusters?

Independent cinemas are films which showcases creativity and important messages. Independent cinemas are different to Hollywood as its low budget and there's less risk losing money for it cost less. Hollywood films has larger audience and attracts more people because its well known. It's also more expensive and they invest more in their films than indie ones.


2) What is I, Daniel Blake about? I Daniel Blake is a 59 whose worked as a joiner for most his life. He met a single mother with two kids whose only chance to escape a horrible hostel in London is for her to accept a flat 300 miles away .Daniel stands up and fights for his honour leading a movement for compassion that will impact the lives of a struggling mother with two kids. It contains political message and the daily struggle of ordinary people for example poverty and unemployment. 

3) Who directed I, Daniel Blake and why is this important? 

Ken loach directed the movie i Daniel Blake. This is important because Ken loach makes films about things such as politics which helps spread awareness about real life crisis .He also mentions the struggle of working class people and what they go through in their day to day life with the aim to catch the government attention and to try and make a difference in their life.

4) How was I, Daniel Blake promoted to an audience? List at least three different methods used by the film's marketing campaign and how they targeted their audience.
  • Organise free (or ‘pay what you can’) screenings and talks in community centres across the UK to build local enthusiasm for the film’s message.
  • Film was premiered not in London, but Newcastle (where the film is set) to gain local support. 
  • Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn attended the London premiere and people that had been denied benefit payments were asked to placard the event.
  • ‘I, Daniel Blake’ was projected onto the Houses of Parliament ('guerrilla marketing') and in various cities

5) What unusual or creative marketing methods were used to get audiences talking about the film? 
Ken loach collaborated with a projecting company to promote his film and get more people to view it or know about it. The name of the film was projected on to Big Ben to attract the people passing by to go and pass this message to other so the film would be popular and admired.I think that marketing method was creative and advanced for not a lot of people could think of such a unique idea.

6) What was the estimated production budget for I, Daniel Blake and how much did it make at the box office? I Daniel  Blake estimated budget is 2 million. They received 2 million to produce the movie and promote it then got back 11 million.

7) How can independent films like I, Daniel Blake compete with Hollywood blockbusters like Black Widow? 
Independent movies compete with Hollywood blockbuster  as they have a low budget and can make decisions freely where as Hollywood has a higher budget which would put them in more risk and they have strict rules they need to obey.

8) In your opinion, was I, Daniel Blake a success? 
I believe i Daniel Blake was a success for it used only 2 million to produce it and made back 11 million not having any studio or much money for expensive costumes or fancy scenes.
