The advert was produced in 1955.


2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s? 

Women were represented as maids whose only purpose were to cook,clean and bring pleasure to their husbands. . They were also sexualised on adverts for they were made to wear inappropriate clothes. The media represented them as fragile  and incapable of being able to drive thus they're presented with washing powders or cleaning machines.

3) What typography can be found in the advert and what connotations might this have?

 Sans serif is found on this advert and this connotes that there are new expensive quality of product. This typography is bold and is an  attention grabber for 'women' as it is thought that they are interested in such products. 

4) What does the costume, make-up and placement of the model (mise-en-scene) suggest about women's role in society in 1955?

Make up, hair and facial expression reinforces that women should feel  a certain way when cleaning as it was seen as their duty as a women.

5) Why is a picture of the product added to the bottom right of the advert?

The reason the product is all the way at thee bottom of the advert is because women can recognise it .


6) What are the connotations of the chosen colours in this advert - red, white and blue?

The red/blue/white connotes the British flag.This is because they want to show support to their country after the horrific events that occurred  during WW2.

7) How does the anchorage text use persuasive language to encourage the audience to buy the product? Give examples.

The anchorage texts focuses on the word' bright' to encourage people to buy OMO as it adds 'whiteness to brightness'

8) What representation of women can be found in this OMO advert? Make specific reference to the advert and discuss stereotypes.
The description of the product is stereotypical as it says '' millions of women'. This shows that women are the target audience  for this product.
