Statement of Intent
AQA guidance: You must complete a Statement of Intent that outlines your aims for your media
product. This must be submitted to your teacher no later than 1 April 2024 and will be sent to the
exam board for marking with your product. This will be assessed with the product and will allow you
to explain the ways in which you will apply knowledge and understanding of media language and
media representation to your product and how your product will target the intended audience.
This is a compulsory element of the non-exam assessment and you must complete the Statement of
Intent using a maximum of 300 words.
Suggested guidance: You do not need to stick to this exactly but the following may help you write
your Statement of Intent.
Introduction
• Title: What will your d new lifestyle magazine be called? Introducing "MODEST" – a lifestyle magazine that celebrates the beauty of simplicity, mindfulness, and intentional living. As the editor-in-chief, I envisioned "MODEST" as a sanctuary in the bustling world of glossy publications, offering readers a breath of fresh air and a dose of inspiration to live with purpose and grace.
At "MODEST," i believe that true elegance lies in the subtle details, in the quiet moments of reflection, and in the conscious choices we make every day.
• Cover image: who will appear on the cover? Meet Heba and Zahra, the dynamic duo behind an innovative abaya clothing line that is taking the modest fashion world by storm. Aisha, a radiant Black woman with a flair for creativity, and Layla, a captivating Arab woman with a keen eye for design, joined forces to create a brand that celebrates modesty while embracing cultural heritage and modern style.
Their abayas are not just garments; they are expressions of identity, empowerment, and inclucivity. By blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics, Aisha and Layla have redefined what it means to dress modestly, offering women of all backgrounds the opportunity to embrace their individuality with confidence and flair.
• Main feature: what will your main story and double page feature be about?
Media Language [approximately 100 words]
• Magazine cover conventions: what cover lines, font/typography, colour scheme and more will you use for your magazine and why?
Ill be using sans and serif etc and my colour theme will be all sorts of colours such as warm/cool toned colours.
• Cover image: how will you use mise-en-scene to communicate meanings in your main cover.
I'll use colours and lightning in my pictures ill also write the price on the magazine and the name of my clothing website if the consumers want to purchase some more.

• Double page spread feature: what will your feature be about and why would it appeal to
your target audience? It will be about an upcoming business women from an ethnic background showcasing her talent through her gift of fashion and being a role to other young women inspiring them to chase their dreams and work hard to fulfil it.
Media Representations [approximately 100 words]
• What representations of people, places and groups will you create in your magazine? E.g.
gender, race/ethnicity, social class etc. My magazine features a Somali women who was raised in the western world where their lies a lot of opportunities that are hard to come by in other places.
• How will your magazine reinforce or challenge stereotypes? My magazine will challenge stereotypes as it represent a black women who owns a business s. This will challenge stereotypes as black women aren't given the same opportunities as white women in the fashion/media industry.
Media Audiences [approximately 100 words]
• Your target audience is specified in the brief: NRS social grades AB – this means rich and
successful people. Expand on this audience: demographics – gender, age, race/ethnicity,
where they live etc. Psychographic details – which psychographic groups would they fit into?
This magazine is aimed at AB[people who earn earn high income] and any race as clothes are a universal thing and shouldn't be limited to anyone because of their ethnicity or race
What other media would your audience enjoy? How will your magazine target this specific
audience? E.g. through design or selection of stories/cover lines.
• What audience pleasures will your production offer? Apply theory here too (e.g. Blumler
and Katz Uses & Gratifications theory).
